Love in Action

We are getting closer to the holidays. Thanksgiving is just around the corner! As a matter of fact Thanksgiving is in 2 days. Really though, isn’t Thanksgiving supposed to be all year-long? What do you have to be Thankful for? Who are you thankful for? Are you thankful for anything? This a time for people to come and get around their families and celebrate a time of thankfulness. So many of us forget about our loved ones and friends. Sometimes we just think about our 4 and no more. We know that God did not think this way and neither did Jesus. So what are we supposed to do? Let’s look at the scripture in 1 John 3:16-17.

16By this we come to know (progressively to recognize, to perceive, to understand) the [essential] love: that He laid down His [own] life for us; and we ought to lay [our] lives down for [those who are our] brothers [[a]in Him].

17But if anyone has this world’s goods (resources for sustaining life) and sees his brother and [b]fellow believer in need, yet closes his heart of compassion against him, how can the love of God live and remain in him?

Jesus laid down His own life for us all. This is one great piece of Thanksgiving. The second part is, He gave us everlasting life! We need to be thankful that we who believe are not going to HELL. Talk about something we should be thankful for. There is a third part to this… He showed you and I, how to Love. Thank you Jesus, You showed us how to love others! We need to follow after the Lord in this. My suggestion is… if you are reading this today, invite someone to your house, someone you may not know completely. There is hungry people out there and they need to see the love of God and how it works. If you are blessed with lot’s of food, invite someone or a family to come and be with you and your family. Share your family tradition with them. There are people out there that are hungry for family attention.

My family and I have invited a family that we do not know but we are looking forward to spending time with them. We are going to have lots of food and fellowship. It will not be my 4 and no more. I always felt that Thanksgiving needs to have lot’s of friends and family. Jesus was a man of relationship when He walked this earth. We need to be just like Him. So if you don’t have anyone over to your house… I encourage you to invite someone. Someone can use the conversation and the warm family fun. Play games this year, dont just sit on the couch and watch football. Don’t just eat and run. Relax and enjoy yourselves.

It is my family’s tradition to sit around the table ad hold hands and each one of us will say what we are thankful for. Usually there is someone crying and someone laughing but it helps remind ourselves of what we are thankful for. Then we will pray and then it is time to grub down on some good food. Be thankful for your family and your lives, but most of all be thankful for your Lord, Jesus.

Blessing to you all and Happy Thanksgiving!
