Proverbs 30:32

32If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.

I’ve been thinking about this verse this morning. If you have boasted about yourself or have had an evil thought hurry up and cover your mouth. Why? Because it will set your whole body on fire. James 3:6 the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. Read that scripture this way: The tongue is a fire that will set everything else on fire if it is not contained. The best way to contain a fire is to put a cover over it. It will extinguish the fire. I was thinking about the monkey that has his hands on his mouth. Speak no evil. Last night I was preaching about “Emotional speaking comes from emotional content.” I was leading up to how we speak about others and how we speak about our situations. We tend to be negative and speak what we hear in our head instead of speaking what the Word says about us and others. God does not want us to speak evil about anyone nor does He want us to speak contrary things that are against His Word. Look at gossiping, it is a destroyer of the brethren. It tears down and does not lift up. Many of us tend to get caught up in it and we are caught there without even knowing that we are even they’re talking with others about someone. Look at the emotional content… We talk about how we feel. Well feelings really does not have any legitimacy! Feelings come and go and if we speak emotional content then we release emotional content into other people’s lives. Emotional content can lead us into evil speaking.

Take for instance… Someone has hurt you and instead of forgiving that person you decide to talk about what happened and you decided to tell other people. What that can lead to is strife and evil speaking. This Proverb is so good and I believe everyone can relate to this. If we apply this Proverb to our life we will not release evil from our mouth. Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Who wants to eat death fruit? Not I and I don’t think you do either. Release life fruit and walk in love to all people no matter what!

I like this one little part of Proverbs 30:32 that says if you have thought evil, put your hand upon your mouth. We have to be cautious of what we are thinking and we must be cautious not to release these words. These words can bring death unto you, your family, friends, church family, and Pastors. If you should have an evil thought take it captive other wise you might find yourself telling others to take cover because you are about to explode with emotional content.

If you are constantly dealing with evil thoughts or you FEEL like you need to share your FEELINGS with someone. Take it to God and tell Him about your FEELINGS. God can deal with you and He will help you through it all. Here is a scripture you can use to battle against evil thoughts. Use this scripture every time something evil comes to your mind.

2 Corinthians 10:3-6 (King James Version)

3For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

4(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

6And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

Using these scriptures help me and they comfort me when I feel attacked. Choose today not to explode with emotional content and speak to God your Father. He loves each one of us and He has given us great weapons to keep us safe, we just need to use them.

Be Blessed!
