“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”- 1 John 2:15-16

The question is, do you love the World more than God? This scripture above challenges the life of the believer. Loving the things of this world challenges the believer’s life because there is so many enticing things to view, taste, smell, touch and hear. We tend to get motivated by our five physical senses. We use our senses as a way to love others and things.

God’s Word makes it clear that we should not love the World. We need to keep our mind fixed on the Lord. Every hour of every day we need to be on guard against our flesh. If we don’t take care of our flesh our flesh will take care of us. Our flesh screams for the things of this world! It is all about choices. We must make an instant decision to walk according to the Spirit and not according to this flesh of ours. Our minds need to be renewed daily. Romans 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. I think we all want the Love of the Father in our lives… It is a matter of choice. We can see here that John is telling us that if we love the World then we do not have the Love of the Father in us.

This scripture is one that can really challenge you. We don’t need to get all legalistic about it but we must really evaluate our choices and our life. We need to look and see if we love the World more or if we Love the Father more. We all live in this world, but we don’t have to live like the World. We as Christians need to live like the Lord. We need to present our lives (body) as a living, breathing sacrifice that is holy and acceptable to the Lord. This is our most reasonable service! Romans 12:1 1I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

As we are coming into the Holiday season we need to be cautious of how we are behaving and what we are doing. We need to make sure that we are not like this World but like the Father. The Holiday season is not the only time we show love. All year-long we are to demonstrate the Love of God. Matthew 22:37
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
