The Pause Heard Around the World

John 8:1-6

King James Version (KJV)

1Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. 2And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. 3And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?  6This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

Ok, so here it is… The great pause heard around the world. People around the world have read or heard of this story. The one point I would like everyone to see is how Jesus responded. Jesus, Paused! He took time to answer His persecutors. He did not just answer right away He paused. Why? Because He needed a great response that no one could refute. He paused because He needed to hear from His Father on how to answer these men (snakes). Jesus makes it very clear that He did not do anything of Himself. He only did those things that the Father spoke. John 12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

The point I am making is don’t answer so quickly without consulting with God the Father. Why? Because He will give you the right words to say. We need to be quick to listen and slow to speak. Why? Because it will allow us to hear the whole question or conversation. It allows wisdom from above (heaven) to flow. Wisdom from above is not refutable. We need to be wise as serpents and soft as doves. Why? Because if we don’t wait patiently, then we will miss our calculated strike. We need to have a soft answer, because it will turn away wrath.

Jesus was meek but not weak. He knew how to properly wait on His Father to give Him the right words to say. As you read on further in John 8 you will notice that all the men left after they heard what Jesus said. Why? Because His wisdom came from above and not from this world. He was not changed by the woman’s circumstance or even the sin she committed. Jesus made a way of escape for this woman. He paused and then He gave His answer. How many of you would have paused? How many of you would have been the one with the stone in your hand?

Think before you speak. Why? Because it could be the matter of life or death. Pausing allows you to think and focus on what is being said. Pausing allows you to give a soft, but powerful answer. Don’t be so quick on your answers, think! Ask the Father, how should I answer? If you want to be like Jesus then you need to pause and think about it. Have a SELAH moment!
