Deuteronomy 13:4

New Life Version (NLV)

4 Follow the Lord your God and fear Him. Keep His Laws, and listen to His voice. Work for Him, and hold on to Him.
What is your responsibility? The Word of God tells us right here. We have a job to perform daily. Not a routine and not a religious act. We are not to serve God in a traditional manner. We are required to work for Him. We need to serve Him to the best of our abilities. Hold onto the Lord! Everyday that you get up out of your bed you need to be very appreciative. You need to thank the Lord, love Him, minister to Him, care for Him, be responsive to Him and seek Him all day and everyday.
The word follow is defined as one who goes after (someone) in order to observe or monitor. Why does God want us to go after Him? Because He wants you to know Him better. He desires for you to observe His ways. Jesus did this and that is why Jesus was and is the greatest man to ever walk the face of the earth. Remember God came in the form of man (Jesus). Jesus was flesh and blood just like you. The difference is that Jesus was always observing what the Father was doing. Jesus was responsive to what God wanted to do.
In order to follow someone you need to reverence them. Scripture calls it fear but this is not fright or fear of the dark, this is reverence. Reverence is defined as deep respect for someone or something. God is not something! God is someone! He is either a stranger to you or He is God to you. If He is God to you shouldn’t you reverence Him as so? Reverence is also noted as Honor. When you honor someone you’re saying I have a deep respect for you and your position. God is to be reverenced everyday. One of the greatest ways to honor God is to follow Him completely. No Hesitations!
Choose to follow the Lord. He is God and He will not fail you. He will not leave you. He will not hurt you. He will lift you up and bless you. The Word of God says that He loves you just like He loves Jesus. John 17:23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
That is so awesome to know! That God loves me the same as He loves Jesus. When you follow the Lord, you will not have time to hear or even believe the enemy. Why? Because you are too busy with the job of following the Lord. God is asking if you would like to work for Him today? He would like to know if you would like to follow Him? He would like to know if you will reverence and honor Him? So the opportunity is in your hand. This is a choice! What will you decide?

  1. Paul says:

Pastor Phil, I like your reverence honour perspective. Both are topics one could explore. I was looking at another word the other day “pre-eminence” as in first in rank…..that in all things he might have the preeminence.(Col 1:18)and would certainly fit in here
    The Lord bless you
    Paul
