1 Corinthians 13:1

The Message (MSG)

If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate.

Have you heard a creaky door? The sound is terrible. Most of the reason why a door creaks is due to missing lubricant on the hinges. Sometimes it creaks because of the way the door is aligned. The door, when out-of-place will creak and make a loud noise. If the hinges are rusted, the door will make a creaking noise. Funny because Paul the Apostle is talking about people who talk well and yet if they don’t love they will sound like a creaky and rusted gate.

When a person who talks such eloquence and does not love, you will be able to see it on them. They use eloquent speech but it’s hard to hear them over all their creakiness. The words can be proper but their action speaks louder than the words.

Love is the lubricant that can make your speech eloquent. Love is the lubricant to ease people’s fears and anxiety. Love is a universal language. Without love your gate will not open and allow others in. Love opens the stubbornness of people’s hearts.

If you look at the life of Paul you will see that he was a murderer and a man of tradition. However, Jesus moved on him and loved him. Jesus gave Paul a new life. Paul was an amazing man and Apostle. He went from being a murderer and persecutor to a man who followed after the Lord in love. Paul loved the church and was zealous for God and His people. If God can change a murderer and persecutor than He can change anyone. If Paul can change, you can too.

Paul gives us an example of how to go from being creaky to being lovely. Be a person of love and get rid of your creakiness. God wants you to love just like Him… Unconditional!
