Psalm 84:5

King James Version (KJV)

Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.

You’re not alone in this life. God the Father is with you always. You’re strength is in the Lord. Through life’s pains and struggles, look to the One who can relieve you of it all. God loves you so much. Sometimes you just need to be reminded that God is always with you. Put your life into His hands and He will show you how much He loves you. Don’t rely on yourself but look to God who is the Author and Finisher of your faith. He will not leave you or forsake you. God is with you always.

If you feel alone, call out to God and He will answer. You can’t rely on your friends and family to keep you strong. You need to look to the One who is always strong. God is your source. Man can help, but man cannot get you through the tough things in life. God can get you through tough and rough times. God always responds.

The Psalmist writes that a blessed man is the one whose strength is in the Lord. He is also talking about the man who trusts in the Lord. The man who relies on the Lord. The man who knows the Lord. If your strength is in man you will fail. Why? Because man has limited strength in himself. If you rely on God you will receive the unlimited strength. The unlimited reliability. The unlimited love. The unlimited power. The unlimited fatherhood. God is waiting on you to rely on Him. Remember… You’re not alone.

Colossians 3:1-2

The Message (MSG)

1-2 So if you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides. Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective.

Temporary things will give you temporary happiness which is a temporal emotion. Temporary in the New Oxford American Dictionary means lasting for only a limited period of time; not permanent. Temporal things tend to cause many believers to be like a roller coaster. People are up then down. They go real fast but stop abruptly. If you set your mind and life on temporal things then you will always be making changes to get the same result. With your mind and your will in pursuit of eternal things you will always have a guarantee. People today are looking for a guarantee on temporal things. The way that I define temporal things is… Subject to change!

For example… You have a candy bar. It satisfies you for just a moment. After 30 minutes or so you find yourself wanting something more or even another candy bar. Why? Because it is temporal. It is meant to give immediate satisfaction but it always has you coming back for more.

Eternal in the New Oxford American Dictionary means lasting or existing forever; without end or beginning. What a powerful definition. This blesses me because the Bible says in John 3:16 that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes on him shall not perish but have eternal life. Eternal means forever. This is like eating a candy bar one time and never having to eat another because the craving has been permanently satisfied. Being a human we often still feel unsatisfied. Why? Because of temporal cravings for worldly things. We want the hottest and greatest things that come out. We try to keep up with the Jones’ only to crave more. We are temporarily satisfied.

Put your mind on eternal things. Pursue eternal things that Jesus presides over. Looking at the things in front of you will always have you in the here and now.

I will close with this in mind. Too often people get moved by what they hear and what they see. These things on the Earth are temporal and not eternal. If you pick your head up and look to God the Father, He will set you on eternal things and the things of this Earth will not move you. Be moved by the presence of God and not the temporal things.

Ezekiel 33:30-33

King James Version (KJV)

30 Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the Lord.

31 And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.

32 And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.

33 And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.

With the way everything is going in our world today, the believer needs to stop playing church. As I have said before it is time to stop playing. People have become so used to the feel good sermon that Pastors are more inclined to tickle the people’s ears and hearts. Church! God is not playing! The heart of the matter is that God is doing great things in the Earth and many believers are missing it. Why? Because they want to hear what they want to hear.

Believers it’s time to stop playing and only hearing what you want to hear. Covetousness can and will destroy a person’s heart. I want the people to be encouraged! However not at the cost of going to hell. I want people to be blessed but not at the cost of losing their soul. I want people to succeed but not at the stake of earning the worlds way.

God is pouring out in our Nation and in the World. He is looking for Worshipers to arise. The heart of truth is that the believer needs to step up and step out. The believer needs to listen and obey God. The believer needs to not talk truth but live it.

What is your part? Stop playing church, stop acting, start being real, step up to what you believe, make Jesus known in your family and in your community. Don’t just be a hearer of the Word, be a doer. In the book of James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. Many say they are doing something but in reality they are just talk. Be a doer, not just a hearer otherwise you will deceive yourself.

God is looking for doers and ones who will push ahead. You might mess up but if you do, don’t let it keep you down. Stay focused on Him! Keep your face forward and don’t look back. God is speaking are you listening?

Galatians 5:9

Amplified Bible (AMP)

A little leaven (a slight inclination to error, or a few false teachers) leavens the whole lump [it perverts the whole conception of faith or misleads the whole church].

Interesting what Apostle Paul is talking about here. He basically said the same thing Jesus said in Matthew 16:6 Amplified Bible Jesus said to them, Be careful and on your guard against the leaven (ferment) of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Why did Paul and Jesus say this? What did they know that we need to know. They understood the concerns of false teaching, prophecy and laws.

The church today needs to be cautious of these things. It does not mean that the Pastor will be the one doing it. There are people who will come into a church and say a few things yet they are wolves wearing sheep’s clothing. I say to you be cautious of who you are listening to and who you’re keeping company with. Why? Because they could be the one who is polluting you with their version of doctrine.

Here is a crude analogy of the Believer…The believer is like a filled donut. The filled donut could look good and smell good but they could have nothing but rot on the inside. There is nothing like a Raspberry filled donut. Sugar on the outside and sweet filled jam on the inside. However if the donut has been sitting in the display cabinet for two weeks it might look good on the outside but what is on the inside could be fermented. Taking a first bite could taste good because you might not have gotten to the center of the jam. Once into the center of the jam you noticed something seems a little off. If you continue you could end up getting sick. You will be known by the filling on the inside of you. You will be known by the doctrine you speak and who you keep company with. You will be known by your belief system. Why? Because you will promote what you want and how you want things to be.

Believers who are fermented usually ferment others. 1 Corinthians 15:33 Amplified Bible (AMP) 33 Do not be so deceived and misled! Evil companionships (communion, associations) corrupt and deprave good manners and morals and character. It is very important who you hang out with.

Do you want to be blessed? Do you want the blessings on you? Then fill yourself with the Word of God daily. Pray throughout your day. Sing praise and worship songs. Bless the Lord with all you have. Do this daily. Why? Because you will fill yourself up with that sweet savor that God is looking for. How does this happen? God’s Word is powerful and mighty. If you spend time with Him, He will not corrupt you or let you down. God will encourage you throughout your day and you will most certainly walk in the blessing. Stay focused on the Word of God and you will not be tempted to participate with fermented things. Stay in the Word of God and you will see what is right and what is wrong. You will be able to discern the leaven in people. This is not an excuse to remove yourself but an opportunity to teach someone. Some will not be teachable but some will. Be ready in season and out of season.

2 Corinthians 4:8

King James Version (KJV)

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;

Paul is describing events that are currently taking place. There are problems all around him. People were wanting to kill Paul all the time. Paul’s life seemed to be in danger often. Yet, he was not moved by what he saw or what he experienced.

This is not always true of the Christian. You could get a hang nail and start crying to God about the pain or suffering. Let me remind you that you serve a faithful trustworthy God. He will always answer your prayers and He is always available. God will not leave you nor forsake you. To say your prayers have gone unanswered would mean that God has forsaken you. He sees what is going on but He is waiting on your response. See God is bound by His Word and He can not violate His Word. He is always available and He wants to give instruction for your stress and perplexity. He is waiting for you to sit still for a moment and to listen to His instructions.

Many times I find that when a Christian is in stress or perplexed, it is usually because they are moved by what they see and hear. I am talking about the negative things. Negative things happen. Like your car breaks down. You pop a tire on the way to work in the middle of rush hour traffic. Your dog rips up your couch. Your children drop grape juice on your carpet… ETC. You have to choose to not be moved by what you see or hear.

Allowing yourself to be moved by what you see or hear allows the enemy to keep playing games with you and your emotions. Choose not to be moved by anything other than the power of God. More people are moved by the negative things rather than the positive things. If you are moved by the negative things you could end up being like Job… Looking at things that are not even happening! If your moved by the negative things then you will be caught up in the problem without an answer. Jesus is the answer and He has an answer to your problem. The Bible says Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. If you seek first the Kingdom of God then you will have wisdom to deal with the issue. You won’t give into the negative things you see and hear. Why? Because you will be caught up with seeking first the Kingdom of God.

Everything you need and desire is found in the Kingdom of God. The answer to your current problem is found in the Kingdom of God. Do you want to know how to tap into the Kingdom of God? Start praising the Father and get into worship. Don’t wait till Sunday morning. Do it now!

1 Corinthians 2:1-5

King James Version (KJV)

2 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.

For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.

And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
These scriptures say so much but I will say so little. People are attracted to people of excellent speech. I do believe you should speak well when you teach or preach. However, if people are more attracted to the way someone speaks then there is a problem. Speech has nothing to do with the Power of the Spirit of God. The Power of God is visible by the Spirit of God and it becomes evident when a person spends much time in prayer, fasting, praise, worship, reading and meditating on the Word of God.

Throughout the Gospels we see Jesus going to a desert place to pray. We see Jesus getting up early to get to a place of spending time with the Father. We see Jesus being questioned by the religious people of what authority and what power did he get this from. Who gave Jesus the right to be so authoritative and powerful that people get delivered of demons, open blind eyes, cleanse lepers, make people whole, restore body parts… ETC?

Paul was the same way. How? He spent much time in prayer. Paul did not come to entice people. He came to bring direction and instruction. Excellent speech will bring the people to church, but it will not deliver the people. Excellent speech will encourage people but it will not have power. Man’s wisdom may get the praise of men, but God’s wisdom will bring the real power that deserves our praise. Don’t stand in man’s wisdom, stand in the wisdom of God.

Colossians 1:23

Amplified Bible (AMP)

23 [And this He will do] provided that you continue to [a]stay with and in the faith [in Christ], well-grounded and settled and steadfast, not shifting or moving away from the hope [which rests on and is inspired by] the glad tidings (the Gospel), which you heard and which has been preached [b][as being designed for and offered without restrictions] to every person under heaven, and of which [Gospel] I, Paul, became a minister.

As I think about today’s topic I am reminded of the need to stay in faith. Many believers get small victories and they get distracted. Their eyes and mind stay on the victory and they begin to get complacent and lazy. They feel as if they’ve won the entire war. The believer will start taking off his armor after the small victory. This is a grave mistake! Why? Because after a small victory the enemy is going to come even harder at you, and he is going to try to make your testimony of the small victory of no effect. See after you testify about how God has blessed you, the enemy will come and try to get your testimony. Why? Because he does not like to be defeated. He is a sore loser!

God never told us to take off our armor. God has instructed us to keep our armor on continually and He also wants us to keep standing. Why? So that you can get the big victory! Ephesians 6:13-18 King James Version (KJV) 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

So many times I watch people get the small victory only to get defeated and quit just before the big victory. What do I mean? There are people who need healing and as things start to change in their life they get excited and testify of God’s goodness. Then a month rolls by yet they are not completely healed. Five months roll by and you can see that the determination they had months ago is now dwindling. A month longer and they quit and they revert back to their old ways and lifestyle just to miss the blessing by a day or even a month.

Church it’s time to stop being lethargic or even complacent after you get a small victory. God wants you to get the big victory! He wants you to persevere and continue in faith. God wants you to keep your armor on! After your victory is when another attack will come. I can say this because I have experienced it and I have also observed others experience it as well. The devil wants to see how much you believe of what you’ve testified.

When you testify do you believe what you say. People will come up and say God is good, go through an attack, then ask God where are you? Speak words like “I don’t see you, I don’t hear you, are you there?” This is a sign of a person who does not wear their armor, does not pray continually, is irresolute and double-minded.

I encourage you to stay firm in the Word of God! Stand in faith! Believe what you testify! Never, never back down back down in the midst of a showdown. The devil wants to steal your testimony and your goods. Don’t give in or become lazy. Praise God for the small victories and stand until you receive the big victories.
