1 Timothy 1:5

Amplified Bible (AMP)

Whereas the object and purpose of our instruction and charge is love, which springs from a pure heart and a good (clear) conscience and sincere (unfeigned) faith.

Real love and real purpose is what most people in the world are looking for. People want genuineness. The word love is said often without purpose and sincerity. Just because you’re Christian does not mean that you are full of love. I have heard many people say I love you, yet I don’t see it in their actions. Why? Because the love they speak is not of purpose.

Purpose in the Noah Webster’s 1828 Dictionary is defined as that which a person sets before himself as an object to be reached or accomplished; the end or aim to which the view is directed in any plan, measure or exertion. Intention.

Let me define purpose this way. Purpose is something that a person sets out to fulfill. It is intentional and it comes at great price.

Love is not just something we say but something that we intentionally do. Love is not to be thrown around like words. Love is an action not a feeling. Feelings are temporal and love is not. Real love has a real purpose. Real love is the demonstration of Jesus on the cross for your sins and for your life in eternity. Real love is when you can forgive regardless of what someone has done to you. Real love is not talked about, it’s given with no strings attached. Real love is not about you but about the one who is love. 1 John 4:8 Amplified Bible (AMP) He who does not love has not become acquainted with God [does not and never did know Him], for God is love. God loves you and His love came with real purpose. God’s purpose was and is that all humans would be saved. His love for humankind is so great that He willingly gave us Jesus His only Son. That is real love!

Real love comes at a great price. Real love says, “If you hurt me I will still love you.” Real love says, “I forgive and I choose to forget your sin against me.” How is that possible? Scripture says in Hebrews 8:12 (KJV) For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. God, being merciful, is forgiving and not remembering your sin. This is not just mercy but real love with real purpose. God’s purpose for you is to love like Him.

For you to love like God, you will need to know God. How do you do that? Talk to God like you would talk to your friends. Give God your time. For you to love sincerely you will need to purpose in your heart to truly forgive.

Philippians 3:14

Amplified Bible (AMP)

14 I press on toward the goal to win the [supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.

I have been working with this theme called the “Past” for a about a week or so. The reason why I am discussing this issue is, I have heard many people talk about their past and find that they don’t just talk about it they live there. It’s impossible to move forward if the person keeps going backwards. My friend who is one of the Elders in our church said this statement to me on the golf course about 4 years ago… “If the golf ball goes forward it means that you have positive yardage which is forward progress, every inch counts.”  I laughed when I heard that statement because as simple as it is, most people make it difficult. It does not matter the distance, so long as it is moving forward. Forward progress is positive yardage and it is about moving to a desired destination.

A person like myself, who likes to play golf is always looking for distance and consistency. I really enjoy playing golf even when my forward progress ends up in the woods or a sand trap. Why? Because I know that I am moving ahead. The game of golf is meant to be relaxing but most who play golf get frustrated because they don’t hit the ball like some of the professionals. Let me say this to you… They are called professionals because they spend time on their sport. They practice long hours and spend a lot of time making adjustments. Why? So they can improve. This should be the action of the Christian Believer. They should continually practice on moving forward in the things of God instead of settling for last years miracles and anointing.

Let’s transfer this over to the Christian believers life. Just because you have a problem or something creeps up does not mean that you quit. I watch so-called Christians quit and give up when they get attacked in their health or finances or marriage..ETC. This is not forward progress. Paul talks about pressing toward the goal. Just like a golfer who is looking to get the golf ball into the cup (hole), he makes every stride to pick the right club for the distance that he is at. His desire is to get the golf ball into the hole without taking a bogey (penalty) on his scorecard. As a Christian you should be pressing toward the prize of the high calling of Jesus Christ. You should be looking on how to move forward and to make progress.

In my life as a Christian I have had ups and downs but I have not quit and I don’t plan on quitting ever. My plan is to have positive yardage in the Lord, in His Word, in prayer, in my marriage, in my parenting and in Pastoring. I sometimes look back but only to see where I came from. I am not the same as I was yesterday and I don’t have plans to try to make up for yesterday. I am pressing ahead! Do the same! You can move ahead and you will have positive yardage.
Stay constant and be consistent.

Ezekiel 33:30-33

King James Version (KJV)

30 Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the Lord.

31 And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.

32 And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not.

33 And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.

With the way everything is going in our world today, the believer needs to stop playing church. As I have said before it is time to stop playing. People have become so used to the feel good sermon that Pastors are more inclined to tickle the people’s ears and hearts. Church! God is not playing! The heart of the matter is that God is doing great things in the Earth and many believers are missing it. Why? Because they want to hear what they want to hear.

Believers it’s time to stop playing and only hearing what you want to hear. Covetousness can and will destroy a person’s heart. I want the people to be encouraged! However not at the cost of going to hell. I want people to be blessed but not at the cost of losing their soul. I want people to succeed but not at the stake of earning the worlds way.

God is pouring out in our Nation and in the World. He is looking for Worshipers to arise. The heart of truth is that the believer needs to step up and step out. The believer needs to listen and obey God. The believer needs to not talk truth but live it.

What is your part? Stop playing church, stop acting, start being real, step up to what you believe, make Jesus known in your family and in your community. Don’t just be a hearer of the Word, be a doer. In the book of James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. Many say they are doing something but in reality they are just talk. Be a doer, not just a hearer otherwise you will deceive yourself.

God is looking for doers and ones who will push ahead. You might mess up but if you do, don’t let it keep you down. Stay focused on Him! Keep your face forward and don’t look back. God is speaking are you listening?

Psalm 18:32 (King James Version)

32It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.

It is God who gives us strength to go forward. The definition of the word persevere is to persist in anything undertaken; maintain a purpose in spite of difficulty, obstacles, or discouragement; continue steadfastly.

Some years ago I was hurting really bad. I felt like I was not accomplishing anything in my life. I did not have a job and I was getting really depressed about not providing for my family. I felt like a loser and failure. I felt as if my world was crashing all around me. I did not want to read my bible or even praise. Of course I would go to church and put on the smiles but inside I felt like a loser. One day I went out to a job interview and the company gave me the job, as long as I got my selling license. I went down to the D.M.V. and I asked for a selling license and they told me what I needed and after everything I did they told me I had to pay $97.00 for my license. I did not have any money at the time, “so how was I going to get this job?” I decided at that very moment to give up! I decided that I was not going to persevere. I was very negative! I didn’t know what I was going to do. I was upset and I began to cry. I called out on the Lord and told Him everything that He was doing wrong. I told Him that He did not understand and I yelled out “how are You going to fix my problem?”

I decided to drive to my Dad and Mom’s house and as I was on my way there when I heard a still small voice tell me to read the book of Mark. So, I got out my bible and sat on my Dad and Mom’s couch and I  began to read the book of Mark. I started to see all that Jesus went through. Jesus persevered through the agony of His people’s accusations, the denial of a friend, spitting, punching, a man named Pontius Pilate, the scourging, the nails, the cross and even death. I began to cry out and I found myself looking to Jesus to ask for forgiveness. I had to ask for forgiveness of refusing persevering. I was sad for acting foolishly. I was sad for telling God that He did not know what I was going through. I needed God to just love me. I needed to be hugged and loved on. I sat on the couch for about 4 hours and I just cried and all of a sudden I heard the Lord start speaking to me and telling me that He loved me and that everything was going to be alright. He told me I needed to persevere and to stop giving up! I had an awesome time with the Lord. It was just me and God. I felt loved and I felt encouraged. I decided that I was not going to quit or give up, but, I was going to persevere. God gave me the strength to push ahead!

You know God wants you to persevere through it all. The only way you can do this is to count on the Lord for your strength. It is however, your responsibility to persevere in spite of the difficulties ahead. I would say that if you are going through something right now, look to God for strength. Don’t give up! There are too many Christians giving up today! They feel as if they can not hang on. Well, without the Word of God in your heart and in your mouth you will not be able to hold on. With the Word of God in your heart and in your mouth you will be able to meet all circumstances. Why? Because the Lord your God has equipped you with His Word and has given you His Son to teach you how to speak, say and persevere. God has given you strength to persevere. Habakkuk 3:19 The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. Stop trying to do it all yourself and ask God for help. Lean on God’s arms and not on your friends and family. Stop looking at everyone else’s miracles and blessings and go and get your’s.  Just around the corner is your miracle. Just around the corner you are about to come out of your situation. So don’t stop now! Keep pushing ahead!

Psalm 112:7 (King James Version)

7He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.

Today is day 12 of the fast. I am so excited to see what God is doing in each of us. I am hearing stories of how God has blessed others and I am excited to watch and see the Glory on the people.

So let’s get down to it… Faith is a fixed position. A position with the ability to change your life and the lives of others. Faith can move mountains. Why? Because we base all of it on the name of the Lord. Why? Because He, being Jesus, said if we have the faith of a mustard seed, we can move mountains. Matthew 17:20
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Luke 17:6 And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you. So are you ready to hunch down and take a position on the front line of faith? Are you ready to fix your eyes on Jesus only?

When you are fasting, you are supposed to get yourself into a position that is fixed. You fix your minds on not eating. Now your stomach doesn’t like this, your flesh is going crazy, but, if you’re fixed on the Word of God, then you shall not waver. When a circumstance comes up, you will not waver because your heart is  fixed on the Lord. Our faith is in the Lord!

The word fixed means to be inflexible. It means to be firmly established. It means to be setup. We are setup as Christians to be firmly fixed in faith and not wavering. How does faith come? Romans 10:17 (King James Version) 17So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. So where do you fix yourself? You fix yourself on the Word of God!

Make a choice today… I am not going to be moved by what I hear and see. I am in a fixed position of faith and I will see through all of this in Jesus Name! God is for me and who can be against me. Every weapon that is formed against me shall not prosper and shall not stand. The Lord who is strong and mighty is on my side.

Psalm 57:7 (King James Version)

7My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.

1 Peter 1:15-16

“But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”

Fasting is a time to look at your words. It’s a time to examine and make sure that you are Conversing Holiness. We need to see how we are speaking and to evaluate what we are speaking. Many times we get ourselves into trouble because of the words we speak. Sure things are going to make you angry. Ephesians 4:26-27 26Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27Neither give place to the devil. It’s what we do with the anger and how it’s used.

I am not going to go any further with anger but I did want you to see this. Ephesians 4:22-24 22That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Paul is really ministering to the church of today. The world we live in is showing us how to live in lust and to carry corrupt communication.

We need our mouths and lives renewed daily. Watching what you say is not God’s responsibility. It is the responsibility of the believer. We need to converse with holiness. Speaking about others in a negative sense is not holiness! Speaking negatively about yourself is not holiness! Speaking contrary to God’s Word is not holiness! We need to be holy like the Lord.

As you are fasting these 21 days, I want you to start asking God to show you how you are speaking. I want you to ask God to help you to watch what you are saying. You can pray this way… Father help me to be quick to listen and slow to speak. Help me to see the words before I release them out of my mouth. Father I want to be holy as You are Holy. I want to curve my speech about others and myself. I want to love others even when they speak poorly. Help me to see where I fail in my conversations and help me to clean up my speech. Help me to converse holiness!

Jesus talked a lot about the mouth because He knew it was a way to bring curses and blessings upon our lives. We are called a rare and peculiar kind of people.

1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; We are set apart for the Lord. So be set apart for Him and watch your mouth!

Titus 2:11-12

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;”

As we start a new year we begin to look at things we must do and things we want to do. We are back to work after a long weekend and our whole new year has started. The things of 2010 are now 3 days behind us. What are we expecting this new year? What have you talked to God about this year? What do you want to change about yourself this year?

Many people make new years resolutions and after about 3 weeks they have already failed in everything they have decided they wanted to do. New years resolutions are worldly based on the flesh and the desires of the flesh. If you want to see a change in your life then do live according to the Word of God which will fulfill everything and the Word of God will not fail.

As we start our month fasting before the Lord, I am reminded about the things that God requires of us as Christians. God wants us to live soberly, righteously and godly. As we fast we tend to give up a lot of things that bring us enjoyment and we make fasting a terrible thing. Fasting is an awesome time between you and God. It is a time where you take yourself and set yourself apart from the worldly things. It is a time for you to get closer to the Father and open your heart and mind to His love, peace, joy, strength, faith…ETC. Fasting is a time to hunger for more of the Lord and His presence. Fasting is a time to set yourself apart for His Glory. Just because you go without food or food types does not mean that you have to be miserable. Find peace and joy during this time. What a blessing it is to fast and hunger for the Lord.

Take this bit of encouragement… I have seen people healed of whatever ailed them, marriages become reconciled, lost family members come to Christ and a  whole lot of other blessings. One of the greatest things I have seen when people are fasting is the Glory of God on each face. This is a good reason to live soberly, righteously, and godly. All three of these things cause the Glory of God to be displayed on the earth.

Philippians 3:13-14

13Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

14I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Make it a start today by forgetting those areas of your life you messed up on. Forget about what happened in 2010 and press forward to the things ahead. To make a change in your life, one must be willing to change. If you have never fasted before then make a change and be willing to stay the course! Fasting is an integral part of being a Christian. We can see Jesus did it, Moses did it, Daniel did it and many others. There are many great benefits to your physical body when you fast. There is one crucial part to fasting. Fasting requires prayer time and reading your Bible. If you fast without both of these… All you’re doing is a diet.

You can do this and I know God will bless you. How many of you want to be blessed? Who among you are willing to go for 21 days and see what God can do? How many are up for the challenge? How many are ready to see God bless your life abundantly? God is waiting for your time and He wants to get close to you. Are you ready?
