2 Corinthians 4:8

King James Version (KJV)

We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;

Paul is describing events that are currently taking place. There are problems all around him. People were wanting to kill Paul all the time. Paul’s life seemed to be in danger often. Yet, he was not moved by what he saw or what he experienced.

This is not always true of the Christian. You could get a hang nail and start crying to God about the pain or suffering. Let me remind you that you serve a faithful trustworthy God. He will always answer your prayers and He is always available. God will not leave you nor forsake you. To say your prayers have gone unanswered would mean that God has forsaken you. He sees what is going on but He is waiting on your response. See God is bound by His Word and He can not violate His Word. He is always available and He wants to give instruction for your stress and perplexity. He is waiting for you to sit still for a moment and to listen to His instructions.

Many times I find that when a Christian is in stress or perplexed, it is usually because they are moved by what they see and hear. I am talking about the negative things. Negative things happen. Like your car breaks down. You pop a tire on the way to work in the middle of rush hour traffic. Your dog rips up your couch. Your children drop grape juice on your carpet… ETC. You have to choose to not be moved by what you see or hear.

Allowing yourself to be moved by what you see or hear allows the enemy to keep playing games with you and your emotions. Choose not to be moved by anything other than the power of God. More people are moved by the negative things rather than the positive things. If you are moved by the negative things you could end up being like Job… Looking at things that are not even happening! If your moved by the negative things then you will be caught up in the problem without an answer. Jesus is the answer and He has an answer to your problem. The Bible says Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. If you seek first the Kingdom of God then you will have wisdom to deal with the issue. You won’t give into the negative things you see and hear. Why? Because you will be caught up with seeking first the Kingdom of God.

Everything you need and desire is found in the Kingdom of God. The answer to your current problem is found in the Kingdom of God. Do you want to know how to tap into the Kingdom of God? Start praising the Father and get into worship. Don’t wait till Sunday morning. Do it now!

Psalm 18:32 (King James Version)

32It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.

It is God who gives us strength to go forward. The definition of the word persevere is to persist in anything undertaken; maintain a purpose in spite of difficulty, obstacles, or discouragement; continue steadfastly.

Some years ago I was hurting really bad. I felt like I was not accomplishing anything in my life. I did not have a job and I was getting really depressed about not providing for my family. I felt like a loser and failure. I felt as if my world was crashing all around me. I did not want to read my bible or even praise. Of course I would go to church and put on the smiles but inside I felt like a loser. One day I went out to a job interview and the company gave me the job, as long as I got my selling license. I went down to the D.M.V. and I asked for a selling license and they told me what I needed and after everything I did they told me I had to pay $97.00 for my license. I did not have any money at the time, “so how was I going to get this job?” I decided at that very moment to give up! I decided that I was not going to persevere. I was very negative! I didn’t know what I was going to do. I was upset and I began to cry. I called out on the Lord and told Him everything that He was doing wrong. I told Him that He did not understand and I yelled out “how are You going to fix my problem?”

I decided to drive to my Dad and Mom’s house and as I was on my way there when I heard a still small voice tell me to read the book of Mark. So, I got out my bible and sat on my Dad and Mom’s couch and I  began to read the book of Mark. I started to see all that Jesus went through. Jesus persevered through the agony of His people’s accusations, the denial of a friend, spitting, punching, a man named Pontius Pilate, the scourging, the nails, the cross and even death. I began to cry out and I found myself looking to Jesus to ask for forgiveness. I had to ask for forgiveness of refusing persevering. I was sad for acting foolishly. I was sad for telling God that He did not know what I was going through. I needed God to just love me. I needed to be hugged and loved on. I sat on the couch for about 4 hours and I just cried and all of a sudden I heard the Lord start speaking to me and telling me that He loved me and that everything was going to be alright. He told me I needed to persevere and to stop giving up! I had an awesome time with the Lord. It was just me and God. I felt loved and I felt encouraged. I decided that I was not going to quit or give up, but, I was going to persevere. God gave me the strength to push ahead!

You know God wants you to persevere through it all. The only way you can do this is to count on the Lord for your strength. It is however, your responsibility to persevere in spite of the difficulties ahead. I would say that if you are going through something right now, look to God for strength. Don’t give up! There are too many Christians giving up today! They feel as if they can not hang on. Well, without the Word of God in your heart and in your mouth you will not be able to hold on. With the Word of God in your heart and in your mouth you will be able to meet all circumstances. Why? Because the Lord your God has equipped you with His Word and has given you His Son to teach you how to speak, say and persevere. God has given you strength to persevere. Habakkuk 3:19 The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. Stop trying to do it all yourself and ask God for help. Lean on God’s arms and not on your friends and family. Stop looking at everyone else’s miracles and blessings and go and get your’s.  Just around the corner is your miracle. Just around the corner you are about to come out of your situation. So don’t stop now! Keep pushing ahead!

Psalm 118:5-6 (King James Version)

5I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place. 6The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?

We most certainly serve an awesome God. We serve God who is mighty. With God on your side you do not have to worry about what man can do to you. I like this these scriptures because they remind me of who is bigger than man and who can fulfill my needs. These scriptures speak to me that, not only do I not have to worry but my God shall set me in a large place. A place where I do not have to feel boxed in or boxed up.

Have you ever felt like you were boxed in by a situation? Have you asked yourself, “how am I going to get out of all this?” Are you tired of feeling boxed in and stressed out?

Call upon the Lord in your distress and He will answer you. After He answers you He is going to set you in a large place so that you will not feel boxed in… God is on your side! God wants the best for you. Man on the other hand is out to try to get you. Well let’s remember not every human is out to get you. The one who is really out to get you is the devil. He wants to destroy you and the Word of God in you.

Get your Word and your Word knowledge up. Up your intake of the Word of God and watch what God can and will do. We do not have to fear! God has not given us a spirit of fear. 2 Timothy 1:6-7 6Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. 7For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Church it is time the gift of God be stirred up in you. It is time for you to stop looking to man and looking at man but that you start looking up to God. Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

So what can man do to you? What can God do for you? You make the choice…

John 15:5

I am the vine, ye [are] the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Limitation – a condition of limited ability; a defect or failing.

We as Christians have been told that we are limited. The world and the devil have been telling us that we will never be able to rise above our circumstances and limitations. Christians you are only limited by yourself and the words you speak out of your mouth. When I was a child I used to play a lot of baseball. I was hitting the ball at about 2 1/2 years old. I had great hand and eye coordination. My Dad used to tell me that I could do anything if I would just put my mind to it. When I was little I used to believe what my Dad said. As I began growing up and making new friends I started to listen to them and they always told me that I had limitations. At a young age of about 10 I started to believe everyone else. I started to believe that I was limited. I believed that there were things that I could never do. I not only listened to my friends but I started to speak like that about myself. After about 11 years of this learned behavior, I had some really difficult times. I was finding myself depressed and disgusted about everything. Here I was 21 years old and I was feeling like a total failure. I felt as if I would never accomplish anything. I was limited by my own mind and the words of my mouth.

After that melt down I decided that things were going to be different. I was going to read my Bible more and I was going to pray more. My wife and I ended up in a great church that started to boost my morale and the Pastor was teaching me that I did not have to be limited. I had Jesus who is my source and with Him I could do anything. It’s amazing how my Dad told me that I could do anything. Yet after a few years I learned how the world spoke and I spoke negatively about myself. Then I happened to look at scripture and I heard my Heavenly Father tell me that I could do anything. Since then I have done lot’s of great things. I am no longer limited by this world or by what people say about me.

Today you might be thinking “how will this work for me?” How can I keep going on? How can I do the things that God wants me to do? You can do it because with Jesus on your side you have the winning team. You are a winner!

If you have been fasting and you’re having a hard time then look at your words and see if they are negative or positive. After all you are ruled by the words of your mouth. Have you limited your belief that you can finish this fast? Fasting is not just about giving up food. Fasting is about getting closer to God. Stop limiting yourself with God. God loves you and He wants you to succeed in all you do.

Here is a little excerpt from the book I am reading called “The Power of a Praying Life” by Stormie Omartian. “Jesus enables you to do what you could not do without Him.” Stop trying to do everything on your own and stop trying to do it the worlds way. Look to God and ask Him how He would do it. God will show you and teach you. After all, we are LFL (learning for Life).

Without Jesus we are definitely not going to be able to do anything. We will not accomplish the big things in this life. With Jesus we can do all things. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me.

So you can finish this “fast” and you can be successful through this “fast.” You can do anything and everything as long as you have the Lord Jesus in you and on your side.

Titus 2:11-12

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;”

As we start a new year we begin to look at things we must do and things we want to do. We are back to work after a long weekend and our whole new year has started. The things of 2010 are now 3 days behind us. What are we expecting this new year? What have you talked to God about this year? What do you want to change about yourself this year?

Many people make new years resolutions and after about 3 weeks they have already failed in everything they have decided they wanted to do. New years resolutions are worldly based on the flesh and the desires of the flesh. If you want to see a change in your life then do live according to the Word of God which will fulfill everything and the Word of God will not fail.

As we start our month fasting before the Lord, I am reminded about the things that God requires of us as Christians. God wants us to live soberly, righteously and godly. As we fast we tend to give up a lot of things that bring us enjoyment and we make fasting a terrible thing. Fasting is an awesome time between you and God. It is a time where you take yourself and set yourself apart from the worldly things. It is a time for you to get closer to the Father and open your heart and mind to His love, peace, joy, strength, faith…ETC. Fasting is a time to hunger for more of the Lord and His presence. Fasting is a time to set yourself apart for His Glory. Just because you go without food or food types does not mean that you have to be miserable. Find peace and joy during this time. What a blessing it is to fast and hunger for the Lord.

Take this bit of encouragement… I have seen people healed of whatever ailed them, marriages become reconciled, lost family members come to Christ and a  whole lot of other blessings. One of the greatest things I have seen when people are fasting is the Glory of God on each face. This is a good reason to live soberly, righteously, and godly. All three of these things cause the Glory of God to be displayed on the earth.

Philippians 3:13-14

13Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

14I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Make it a start today by forgetting those areas of your life you messed up on. Forget about what happened in 2010 and press forward to the things ahead. To make a change in your life, one must be willing to change. If you have never fasted before then make a change and be willing to stay the course! Fasting is an integral part of being a Christian. We can see Jesus did it, Moses did it, Daniel did it and many others. There are many great benefits to your physical body when you fast. There is one crucial part to fasting. Fasting requires prayer time and reading your Bible. If you fast without both of these… All you’re doing is a diet.

You can do this and I know God will bless you. How many of you want to be blessed? Who among you are willing to go for 21 days and see what God can do? How many are up for the challenge? How many are ready to see God bless your life abundantly? God is waiting for your time and He wants to get close to you. Are you ready?

Matthew 15:13

13But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.

Do you watch what you speak? Are you in the right place? Did God plant you somewhere, but you are still resisting? Does your plant have good fruit or are you a weedy bush that produces nasty stickers? Who are you? What do you look like?

The topic above is quite ironic. How can you have good plants and good weeds? You think you have good plants but if you were to look closely you might find that your good plants are really just good weeds. Weeds are not good! Look at your words! Your words are very powerful! They can produce good plants that are fruitful and become a blessing or your words can be like good weeds that keep everyone away. A good plant is a blessing and looks beautiful on the outside as well as the inside. The weed looks nasty on the outside and if you look closely you can see a matted nest on the inside. Think of tumbleweeds… They are a tumbling ball of mess. Our words can either be beautiful and cause blessings to occur or our words can be like a jumbled mess of weeds.

In the above scripture, I really like Jesus’ response to His disciples… Jesus responds to their question about how the Pharisees were offended at His saying. We see here that the Pharisees were offended because of their rituals and their traditions of man. They wanted the Disciples to wash their hands because of tradition. Jesus explains in the following scriptures that it is not about what you take into your mouth that defiles a man, rather it is what comes out of your mouth (Matthew 15:18) Your mouth and your heart work synonymously with each other. If your heart is full of weeds then you will produce nothing but weeds. If your heart is full of blessings then you will produce great plants that are full of fruit. Every plant that the Father does not plant will be uprooted. This is not an excuse to go and be a weedy person or to go and speak evil words. We must cleanup our words and start speaking with authority like Jesus.

If we are wanting to see the best from God then we need to start speaking God’s Word. We need to pray the Word of God and not just follow traditions. Traditions of man is just “Genetically Altered Religion.” We know the Pharisees were altered by their ideologies! So if you want to start being successful and blessed, then you need to start watching what you are speaking. If you produce out of self then the Father will uproot. If you produce out of God then it shall be rooted deep in good soil. Change your heart first and your words will be changed as well. Choose to love God first and your words will become words of love.

Psalm 89:9 (King James Version)

9Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.

When life’s ocean rises up and it feels as if you are going to go down with your ship God will still be there. Call upon the Lord and He will answer you. This Psalm is really awesome when you look at it completely. Life can be like a sea with large waves. You never know if the waves are going to get high and rough, but you can be sure of one great thing… God will calm your storm. God does not mind stirring your ship but you need to call out to Him. I know in my past the first thing I would do when it felt as if I was falling was to call upon the prayer warriors of the church. This is fine, but it is not up to them to pray you down from your situation. You must call out on God!

If you only lean on your friends or families help then you will fail. Job 19:14 My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me. Friends and family will fail you, but God will not. If you have ever been in a situation where you know that you are going to fail then you need to put your hands to the sky and start praising the Lord. What do you have to lose? When all else fails praise the Lord! The Lord will not fail you or forsake you. It does not matter what you have done, God will always be there for you!1 Chronicles 28:20 And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD. The same way David encouraged his son Solomon… I encourage you to faint not or become weak, but be strong and of good courage because God whom you serve will fail not and will not forsake you! Raise and praise the Lord!

When you see the storm brewing you had better look to the sky and praise. I have been through many storms in my life and sometimes I forget to look up and raise my hands and raise my voice but just because I forgot at that moment does not mean God walked away from me. God knows my voice and I know His voice and sometimes He has to remind me to get up and start praising Him. When I remember to raise my hands and praise Him is when the devil shuts up and it is when I find my peace. I know God is listening to me and I know that He hears my praise.

I encourage you to raise your hands right now and begin to start thanking the Lord and praising Him for His goodness and righteousness.
