Galatians 5:9

Amplified Bible (AMP)

A little leaven (a slight inclination to error, or a few false teachers) leavens the whole lump [it perverts the whole conception of faith or misleads the whole church].

Interesting what Apostle Paul is talking about here. He basically said the same thing Jesus said in Matthew 16:6 Amplified Bible Jesus said to them, Be careful and on your guard against the leaven (ferment) of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Why did Paul and Jesus say this? What did they know that we need to know. They understood the concerns of false teaching, prophecy and laws.

The church today needs to be cautious of these things. It does not mean that the Pastor will be the one doing it. There are people who will come into a church and say a few things yet they are wolves wearing sheep’s clothing. I say to you be cautious of who you are listening to and who you’re keeping company with. Why? Because they could be the one who is polluting you with their version of doctrine.

Here is a crude analogy of the Believer…The believer is like a filled donut. The filled donut could look good and smell good but they could have nothing but rot on the inside. There is nothing like a Raspberry filled donut. Sugar on the outside and sweet filled jam on the inside. However if the donut has been sitting in the display cabinet for two weeks it might look good on the outside but what is on the inside could be fermented. Taking a first bite could taste good because you might not have gotten to the center of the jam. Once into the center of the jam you noticed something seems a little off. If you continue you could end up getting sick. You will be known by the filling on the inside of you. You will be known by the doctrine you speak and who you keep company with. You will be known by your belief system. Why? Because you will promote what you want and how you want things to be.

Believers who are fermented usually ferment others. 1 Corinthians 15:33 Amplified Bible (AMP) 33 Do not be so deceived and misled! Evil companionships (communion, associations) corrupt and deprave good manners and morals and character. It is very important who you hang out with.

Do you want to be blessed? Do you want the blessings on you? Then fill yourself with the Word of God daily. Pray throughout your day. Sing praise and worship songs. Bless the Lord with all you have. Do this daily. Why? Because you will fill yourself up with that sweet savor that God is looking for. How does this happen? God’s Word is powerful and mighty. If you spend time with Him, He will not corrupt you or let you down. God will encourage you throughout your day and you will most certainly walk in the blessing. Stay focused on the Word of God and you will not be tempted to participate with fermented things. Stay in the Word of God and you will see what is right and what is wrong. You will be able to discern the leaven in people. This is not an excuse to remove yourself but an opportunity to teach someone. Some will not be teachable but some will. Be ready in season and out of season.
